Creekview Middle School will present a "bare necessities" version of Disney's "The Jungle Book" next weekend.

Creekview Middle School will present a "bare necessities" version of Disney's "The Jungle Book" next weekend.

"Jungle Book Kids" is a 40-minute version of the show designed for young performers, said co-director Jennifer Jones, a sixth-grade math and science teacher at Creekview.

"It's a shortened script and we tell more of the story through song," she said.

The cast includes 62 fifth- and sixth-graders selected from about 120 who auditioned.

"We wanted to pick a play that could involve as many kids as possible, Jones said.

"For children this age, it's more about the experience of performing and being on stage, so they can decide if this is something they enjoy and might be interested in as they move on to middle school and high school."

The cast includes Sammie Miller as Mowgli, Joshua Zoppa as Bagheera, Jared Knutson and Baloo and Sydney Weller as King Louie.

"Yes, our Mowgli is a girl," Jones said.

Creekview art teacher Douglas Weller is co-director.

Jones said the show features famil-iar musical numbers, including "The Bare Necessities" and "I Wan'na Be Like You."

The show will be performed at 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5-6, in the Marysville High School auditorium. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for students and senior citizens.
