Marysville-based Scotts Miracle-Gro Company is one of six Ohio companies to receive the Gold Award from the Office of Healthy Ohio (OHO), recognizing businesses for healthy worksite practices.

Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Director Alvin D. Jackson, M.D., and Healthy Ohio Business Council Chair Joelyn Ridder will present the fifth-annual Healthy Ohio-Healthy Worksite awards at 10:30 a.m. Feb. 27 at the Columbus Hilton at Polaris. The ceremonies will be held during the Health Action Council Ohio Kick Off conference featuring national experts on health reform, health care systems and health benefits including Kathryn Wilber, American Benefits Council and Robert Carlyle, Aon Consulting- Canada.

More than 70 companies, cities and townships applied for the 2008 awards which recognize Ohio employers that demonstrate a commitment to employee health through comprehensive worksite health promotion and wellness programs. A total of 27 companies are being recognized with Gold, Silver or Bronze awards.

"Workers spend a significant time at their jobs," Jackson said. "Healthy practices at work almost certainly will translate to healthy practices at home and a valuable reduction in health care costs."
