Plain City residents can improve their properties by taking advantage of the establishment of the Plain City Community Reinvestment Area (CRA).

The Union County Economic Development Partnership is working with the village of Plain City and the Uptown Plain City Organization to educate residents about the CRA.

The main purpose of the CRA is to encourage development, redevelopment and revitalization in specific areas of the community to improve economic stability, maintain property values and create new employment opportunities.

The program is designed to assist property owners by helping them improve buildings within the designated boundaries of the CRA district.

CRA tax incentives are granted to property owners for property improvements that meet the goals, objectives and requirements of the CRA. These improvements include building and structural modifications such as an addition, new exterior windows, new facades, new store front, new awnings and major structural repairs.

Qualifying residential properties may receive a 75 percent, seven-year real property tax abatement for improvements for which the cost of remodeling is at least $15,000.

Qualifying commercial and industrial properties may receive up to a 100 percent, 12-year real property tax abatement for new improvements for which the cost of remodeling is at least $25,000.

Property owners interested in eligibility, requirements and criteria for approval should contact the Union County Economic Development Partnership at (937) 642-6279 or ephillips@unioncounty.org.
