The Marysville Exempted Village School District will have a principal in every building next year. The board voted March 23 to approve the hiring of Lynette Lewis as principal at Navin Elementary School starting with the 2009-2010 school year.

Placing a principal in every building was among the priorities of the board following the passage of operating levies last fall. Marysville has shared principals between elementary school buildings for the past two years. Navin most recently shared principal Donna Ball with Raymond Elementary School.

"It's huge for us to have a principal in every building," Superintendent Larry Zimmerman told ThisWeek. "It's so difficult to fill in. You have to have a leader in every building."

Lewis comes to Marys-ville from Buckeye Valley Local Schools, where she has been principal at West Elementary School for four years.

"It's a great opportunity, and an exciting time for me professionally," Lewis told ThisWeek. "I will miss (West), but I'm looking forward to working with the Marysville team. Everyone has been very welcoming."

"Her personality and her sense of humor stand out," Zimmerman said. "And she's an outstanding educator, with experience that will allow us to move forward. She is very deep in her understanding of the instructional model and standards."

The board also renewed nine administrator contracts, including elementary principals Greg Casto and Ball. The remaining elementary principals are in mid-contract.
