Who cooks the best ribs in Marysville?

Who cooks the best ribs in Marysville?

That question will be answered on Friday, June 27, during the Uptown Rib Cook-Off.

As part of the Friday Nights Uptown series, festivities begin at 5 p.m. and continue until 9 p.m. The annual cook-off pits local chefs and amateur food enthusiasts against one another.

Entries will be judged in two categories: commercial/restaurant and amateur (resident). The winner of the resident category will receive a prize, while the winning restaurant receives the "Best of the Best" award and the distinction of having the best barbecue ribs in Marysville.

The contest was initiated between restaurants three years ago and was so successful that the competition was expanded last year to include both commercial and individual categories.

Any restaurant or resident who wishes to participate is asked to prepare four plates/containers of ribs for the judges. The ribs should be separated into individual pieces (not a whole connected slab) so the judges can pick up one rib at a time to taste. The plates/containers are to be delivered to the band tent at 6:30 p.m. the evening of the event.

The judges will taste and select their winner between 6:30 and 7 p.m., and the winner will be announced at 7 p.m. during the band's first break.

Any restaurant, business or resident wishing to participate should call Jason Stanford at the Union County Chamber of Commerce at (937) 642-6279.
