A Columbus State Community College trustee died last week following a horseback riding accident near Marysville.

Suzanne Stilson Edgar, 54, of Worthington, died at Riverside Methodist Hospital on June 22. She had been a member of the CSCC board of trustees since 1994.

Edgar fell from a horse, receiving head injuries, on June 19, at a small farm she owns on Harriott Road, according to the Union County Sheriff's office.

The Jerome Township Fire Department could not release its report of the incident due to the Health Insurance Portability Accountability Act (HIPAA), but confirmed that it responded to the farm on Harriott Road at 7:20 a.m. that Saturday.

CSCC officials sent a notice to campus students, faculty and staff on June 22.

"It is with great sadness that I inform you that board of trustee member Suzanne Stilson Edgar passed away this weekend as a result of a horse riding accident," the notice, provided by media relations coordinator David Wayne, states. "She served as a Columbus State Community College trustee for almost 17 years. She was committed and dedicated to the mission of Columbus State Community College."

CSCC president Val Moeller said that Edgar will be missed.

"Ms. Edgar was a great entrepreneur and had a keen business sense," Moeller said. "She always asked well-thought out questions. It made you think about the long-term and short-term ramifications of important decisions. She was a unifying board member who was committed to the mission of the college. Our thoughts and prayers are with Suzanne's family during this time of loss."

Edgar was a graduate of Otterbein College with a bachelor of science degree in business administration. In 1994 she received Otterbein's Special Achievement Award, which is presented to Otterbein graduates whose career contributions have significantly enhanced their professions or organizations, according to Wayne.

Edgar was also business manager of W.E. Stilson Consulting Group, a Columbus-based engineering company. She served on the CSCC president's search committee in 1996, and chaired the committee that selected David Harrison as president of the college. She was vice chairwoman and chairwoman of the board in 2000-02, and for a second time in 2007-09, according to Wayne.

Edgar's term on the CSCC board of trustees would have continued until Aug. 31, 2011.
