Erica Goodwin was approved as the Marysville High School girls volleyball coach at last Monday's board of education meeting.


Goodwin graduated from Marysville in 2001 and played for Jackie Boggs. After graduating, she attended Ohio State and earned a bachelor's in elementary education. Last season, Goodwin served as the Monarchs freshman coach.


"Erica has put forth a lot of effort this summer and seems ready and capable of making the transition to the head coaching position," Marysville athletics director Cal Adams said. "We think and hope the program will continue to grown under her leadership."


Goodwin takes over for Leslie Boey, who spent the last five seasons coaching the Monarchs. In 2008, Marysville qualified for a Division I regional semifinal match against Cincinnati Ursuline before losing 25-3, 25-16, 25-9 to finish 22-5. In the district final, Marysville beat Watterson 20-15, 15-25, 25-21, 25-22, 15-12 for the program's first district championship.


Last season, Marysville finished 7-16 overall tied Olentangy for fifth in the OCC-Cardinal Division at 5-9, behind champion Olentangy Liberty at 13-1.
