Just two traffic fatalities have happened in the county during the late spring-early summer months, but that's still two too many, according to the Union County Health Department.

The health department's Safe Communities program reported on July 27 that two traffic fatalities occurred in Union County between April 1 and June 30.

"Two deaths are too many for our community," said Shawnna Jordan, Safe Communities/Safe Kids coordinator. "Each time such a tragedy occurs, a valuable member of our community is abruptly taken from his or her family. I only hope that through raising traffic safety awareness and educating motorists, we can help prevent the loss of another life."

For most of 2010, Union County motorists have exhibited safety on the roads. During the time period of Jan. 1 through March 31, not a single traffic-related fatality was reported in the county, according to the health department's report. There were two traffic-related deaths during that time period last year.
