As of March 28: Auto manufacturer Honda's Ohio operations will be affected by the natural disasters in Japan after all, according to information from the company.

Honda announced over the weekend that its automobile plants in North America would continue normal production through April 1 but that "temporary interruptions" could occur later.

"Due to concerns related to the supply of a few critical parts from Japan, Honda associates working at these North American plants were informed on March 25 that there is a likelihood that we will experience some temporary interruptions to North American vehicle production after that date, until the parts-supply issues are resolved," the company stated in a release.

How the interruptions specifically will affect Honda's Marysville and East Liberty operations is not yet known.

"This is a very fluid situation, so we are not able to provide more detailed information at this time," the company's press release stated.

The Accord, Accord Coupe, Acura TL, Acura RDX, CR-V, Element and Accord Crosstour (manufactured at the Marysville and East Liberty operations) are supported primarily by North American suppliers.

American Honda Motor Co. recently established a website to channel donations to the American Red Cross from customers, suppliers and others interested in supporting the Japanese disaster recovery effort, the company has announced. To donate online, visit http://american.redcross.org/hondaacura-emp.

"We are humbled and deeply appreciative of the concern shown for our Japanese associates, their families and all those affected by the March 11 earthquake and tsunami," said Stephan Morikawa, assistant vice president of corporate community relations.

Locally, several Union County organizations have collaborated to raise funds to help Honda employees and others recovering in Japan. Under the moniker, "Union County Cares," several groups are funneling donations through the Union County Foundation and the American Red Cross of Union County for disaster relief.

Local donations may be made to the Union County Foundation, 126 N. Main St., Marysville, 43040, by calling (937)-642-9618 or online at www.unioncountyfoundation.org.
