City earns accolades from United Way

The United Way of Union County presented Marysville with its Campaign Chair Award, given to the most outstanding workplace campaign of the year.

City Administrator Terry Emery made the announcement at the March 14 Marysville City Council meeting.

He said the $13,060 campaign in 2013 was the largest ever conducted by the city for United Way and reflected an increase in giving from last year’s $8,051 total.

Other awards and honors noted at the meeting included:

Finance Director Jenny Chavarria accepted an award from the Government Finance Officers Association for excellence in financial reporting. This marks the second year in a row the city earned this distinction.

Council President Nevin Taylor presented members of the Marysville Kiwanis Club with a certificate noting March 26 was the club’s 90th anniversary. Organizations that have benefited from the volunteer work of the local Kiwanis Club are United Way of Union County, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, YMCA and the Marysville Junior Baseball Program.

Firefighter and Paramedic Mike Montgomery was named “Bluecoat of the Year” by the Knights of Columbus. He performs analysis studies on stroke patients who are transported to hospitals by the department. He is the first Marysville firefighter to receive this award.
