Marysville will host its third Pumpkin Dash 5K on Thanksgiving Day Nov. 28.

City Event Planner Amanda Morris said participation in the race is growing every year.

The inaugural run in 2011 included 398 participants. Last year, 475 people participated and as of Nov. 21, 540 participants had registered for the 2013 Pumpkin Dash.

"Pumpkin Dash 5K is a great community event held in Marysville and Union County," Morris said. "The start and finish location is held in the beautiful historic Uptown District and participants run and walk on the neighboring streets."

Those taking part in the race have a chance at a pumpkin pie.

"There are 500 pumpkin pies available for participants," Morris said.

The race benefits two local charities, the Memorial Meals Program and the Marysville Food Pantry.

The goal is to provide 2,500 meals between the two of them.

Organizers say every dollar or every item of canned goods donated will go straight to the program to help hundreds of Union County residents receive a hot meal.

The Pumpkin Dash is hosted by Speedy Sneakers Racing and sanctioned by USA Track & Field.

The presenting sponsor is Green's Auto Point. Official sponsors are Skechers GOrun, Edward Jones and the Richwood Banking Co. Supporting sponsors are Community Markets, Diana Griffin Photography, Route 33 Crossfit, URE, and Wing and Prayer Running LLC.

Anyone wishing to volunteer for the event can sign up online at pumpkindash5k.com.

Race day registration workers, finish line helpers and course marshals are still needed.

Runners age 14 or younger can register online for $25 or $30 on race day. Runners age 15 and older can register online for $35 or $40 on race day.

Family team and corporate team registration costs $30 per member or $35 per member on race day.

Pre-race packets can be picked up at North Main Motors, 1001 E. Fifth St., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 26; noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 27; and before the race on Thursday, Nov. 28.

Registration on the day of the race will be open from 7:30 to 8:45 a.m.

The Kids Dash begins at 8:50 a.m. with the official 5K race to start at 9 a.m.

Skechers GOrun shoes will be awarded to the top three overall male and female runners.
