The Union County Health Department and the Union County AIDS Taskforce will offer free STD/HIV testing from noon to 6 p.m. Friday, Feb. 7, at the Union County Services Building, 940 London Ave. in Marysville.

"Get Yourself Tested" is a national campaign aimed at increasing awareness about the importance of such tests. The event will offer free HIV testing to anyone. Free chlamydia and gonorrhea testing is available for people under age 30 or anyone with symptoms of those diseases. Gift card incentives are available for participants. Appointments are not needed and testing is confidential.

According to information from the health department, many people are aware of the dangers of HIV, which can lead to AIDS, but are unaware of the high number of other sexually transmitted infections. Chlamydia, for example, is the No. 1 reportable disease in Union County as well as Ohio and the United States. Statistics show that one in two sexually active young people will get an STI before age 25.
