McSwords resigns as coach at Marysville
Citing family reasons, Joe McSwords has stepped down as coach of the Marysville High School girls soccer team.
McSwords submitted his letter of resignation Jan. 9.
He had held the position since 2004 and was an assistant coach for six years before that.
Last season, Marysville finished 8-9-1 overall, losing to Westerville Central 3-0 in the second round of the Division I district tournament. The Monarchs were seventh (2-5) in the OCC-Cardinal Division behind champion Dublin Jerome (7-0).
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my time as head soccer coach, as well as my years with the Marysville High School soccer program,” McSwords said. “My decision to leave was one I gave much consideration, but it really came down to doing what was best for me and my family. My kids are older and I want to be more involved with them.”
McSwords will remain an assistant coach in the swimming program.
“He really grew the (soccer) program,” principal Matt Chrispin said. “Joe ran a sound program and represented MHS very well. He maintained a high standard of commitment, competitiveness and sportsmanship on and off the field.”
