Terry Smith, who won a state championship coaching at Hilliard Davidson, has been named Marysville High School boys soccer coach, pending school board approval.
Smith would replace Marc Kirsch, who resigned Dec. 5.
“Coach Smith has extensive successful coaching experience at both the high school and club levels,” athletics director Joe Bline said. “The committee was impressed with his commitment to excellence on the soccer field and most importantly in the daily lives of those he coaches.”
Smith coached in the Davidson boys soccer program from 1999-2012 and was head coach from 2003-12. The Wildcats won the Division I state title in 2007, captured district titles in 2006, 2007 and 2009 and won OCC championships in 2006 and 2007.
Last season, Marysville finished 8-5-4 overall and 3-2-2 in the OCC-Central Division.
The Monarchs lost to Reynoldsburg 2-1 in the second round of the Division I district tournament after a first-round bye.
Kirsch led the program for 14 seasons and guided the Monarchs to a district final in 2008, losing to Worthington Kilbourne 3-1.
