Three central Ohio wrestlers win state titles
Marysville High School senior wrestler Noah Forrider completed a quest by winning the Division I state title at 138 pounds March 2 at Ohio State.
Forrider, a four-time state place finisher, won his first state title after defeating Madison’s Nick Montgomery 5-4 in the title match.
Forrider (49-0) was eighth at 119 as a freshman, sixth at 130 as a sophomore and fourth at 138 as a junior.
“It just felt like the weight of the world was lifted off of my shoulders,” Forrider said. “There’s no way to really describe my feelings. It’s the best feeling.”
Heavyweights Travis Gusan of Hilliard Davidson and Patrik Garren of Ready closed the night by winning state titles.
Gusan defeated Canton GlenOak’s Corey Siegfried 3-1 in sudden victory overtime in the Division I title match and Garren defeated Loudonville’s Austin Cary 5-2 in the Division III title match.
Olentangy Liberty’s Jake Ryan reached the Division I final at 145 before losing to Ashland’s Wyatt Music 8-0.
Also in Division I, Olentangy Orange’s Artem Timchenko lost to Solon’s Brandon Thompson 3-1 in the final at 120 and Davidson’s Bobby Smith lost to Massillon Washington’s Ivan McClay 3-1 in the final at 126.
In Division II, Whitehall’s Alex Farrow lost to Perry’s Billy Miller 3-1 in the final at heavyweight.
