Daugherty leaves Marysville for Orange

Marysville High School athletics director Joe Bline is in search of a new girls soccer coach following the resignation of Jim Daugherty.

Daugherty, who coached the team for two seasons, stepped down last month.

Daugherty said he will be replacing Jen Odebrecht as girls soccer coach at Olentangy Orange. Odebrecht resigned in November after six seasons.

Daugherty guided the Monarchs to the program’s first district title last season, as they defeated top-seeded Dublin Coffman 2-0 in a Division I final.

Marysville then lost to Pickerington North 3-2 in overtime in a regional semifinal to finish 12-7-1 overall.

Under Daugherty, the Monarchs were 21-11-5 overall and 5-5-4 in the OCC-Central Division.

“Coach raised our level of competition and will be greatly missed,” Bline said. “He is a first-class person and a great coach.”

Daugherty previously coached the girls team at Fairborn (1997-2000) and the boys teams at Grove City (2001-03), Bexley (2004-06) and Dublin Coffman (2007). He led Bexley to the Division II state title in 2005.

Before coming to Marysville, he was an assistant coach for the women’s team at Purdue University for four seasons.
