New Albany-Plain Local Schools will collect food and personal hygiene items from Dec. 1-6 as part of "New Albany cares week."

The program, organized by the New Albany High School Eagle Ambassadors and the learning campus, will collect food and other items for the Mid-Ohio Foodbank. Students are asked to bring in items during the week, and community members can donate at girls and boys basketball games on Dec. 5 and 6. Admission to the games is free with the donation of two canned goods at the door. A drive-by food drive will be held from 8 a.m. to noon Dec. 6 in the loop in front of the middle and high schools, 6600 Dublin Granville Road.

Teresa Ralston received another cooking award, this time from the Plugra European-Style Butter recipe contest.

The New Albany resident won $5,000 and a trip to New York City in the national contest that drew 900 entries. According to information from Plugra's Web site, Ralston will travel to New York to prepare her winning recipe of bleu cheese herb butter with walnuts.

Ralston has won recipe contests sponsored by Market Day and Sandra Lee in the past.
