Alice Wang, a ninth-grader at New Albany High School, won second place in the final round of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra's Young Musicians competition April 5 at Ohio State University.

Alice Wang, a ninth-grader at New Albany High School, won second place in the final round of the Columbus Symphony Orchestra's Young Musicians competition April 5 at Ohio State University.

Wang, a pianist, performed the first movement of Beethoven's "Piano Concerto No. 3."

Students in 26 Ohio counties were eligible to compete. Sixteen students participated in the preliminary round, and six students competed in the final round, in which Wang placed second.

She currently studies with Tianshu Wang, a professor at Capital University.

Wang, who has played piano since she was 5, also plays cello in the New Albany High School chamber orchestra.
