New Albany-Plain Local school administrators are warning parents, teachers and students to take precautions to avoid swine flu.

A district-wide e-mail was sent Wednesday after the first probable case of swine flu was found in Franklin County.

The e-mail from Superintendent Steve Castle asked parents to watch their children for symptoms such as high fever, lethargy, lack of appetite and coughing.

Administrators said the district also is taking steps such as increasing the use of disinfectants and increasing the frequency of cleaning high-contact surfaces like doorknobs, handrails and desktops. The e-mail said administrators are instructing teachers to have students wash their hands more often.

"We are closely monitoring news from around the state and the nation, and we will remain in close contact with Franklin County and other health officials for local updates," Castle said in the e-mail.
