Women's clothing brand Dress Barn Inc. is in the process of acquiring New Albany-based Tween Brands Inc.

Jennifer Chrysler, New Albany community development director, said the deal is expected to be completed by October.

The Columbus Dispatch reported yesterday that the agreement is a stock-swap deal, with Dress Barn acquiring about $165-million of Tween Brand debt. The New Albany location then would operate as a subsidiary of Dress Barn.

Chrysler said she hasn't heard the location would close.

"Everyone knows they have established their brand here," she said. "That's what we know. It's business as usual."
