Committee seeking grand marshal for annual parade

New Albany Founders Day planners are accepting nominations for parade grand marshals.

Stacy Adkins, a member of the planning committee, said the group would accept nominations through March 12 and likely would select an official at its March 13 meeting.

Last year, Wilbur and Janet Kindler were selected as grand marshals for the 34th Founders Day parade on May 16.

This year's parade begins at 11 a.m. Saturday, May 5 and a "fun day" will follow at the New Albany 2-5 building.

"Our theme is 'No Limits,'" Adkins said. "We are using that to bring in some different things than we've had in the past -- things a lot of people will enjoy."

She said the theme is a catch-all to allow the planning committee more freedom in scheduling events.

"We wanted something different," Adkins said. "Our themes are always a little difficult to come up with."

Adkins said the Founders Day committee plans to have a mix of old and new.

"We are definitely looking at bringing back the mechanical bull," she said. Adkins also said the committee is considering a bungee trampoline ride, which allows riders to bounce on a trampoline while strapped into a harness attached to a bungee cord.

She said the group is still working on finalizing the Founders Day lineup.

"All of our old favorites are going to be there," she said.

Those interested in submitting nominees for grand marshal should e-mail or mail submissions to 6890 Cedarbrook Glen, New Albany 43054.
