New Albany's response rate for the 2010 census is the same as the state average.

New Albany's response rate for the 2010 census is the same as the state average.

According to the U.S. Census Web site, the mail-back rate in New Albany is 47 percent, the same as the Ohio average, as of ThisWeek's press deadline Tuesday, March 30.

The national participation rate is 46 percent.

Government officials are measuring census participation rates differently this year.

In 2000, the U.S. Census Bureau measured participation based on the mail response rate, which did not take into account vacant homes to which the census forms may have been mailed.

This year, the bureau is measuring the mail participation rate, which measures the percentage of forms returned by households that received them.

Census forms started arriving in the mail March 15. Officials are asking residents to mail the forms back as soon as possible. For information about the 2010 census, visit 2010.census.gov.
