St. Francis DeSales High School senior and New Albany resident Kristin N. Springer has received a scholarship to the University of Notre Dame, where she will major in biology.

Springer has received the Glenna R. Joyce Scholarship, which covers the cost of tuition, fees, room and board, books, transportation and miscellaneous expenses for eight semesters of undergraduate education.

The Joyce Scholarship is awarded to students on the basis of anticipated superior academic performance and contribution to the university, high character and financial need, according to DeSales assistant principal Jackie Messerschmitt.

Springer plans to attend medical school and wants to become a pediatric surgeon, Messerschmitt said.

At DeSales, Springer is a valedictorian and involved in the St. Vincent DePaul service club, the National Honor Society, pep club and math club.

She is the daughter of Mike and Loan Springer of New Albany.
