The Building Industry Association of Central Ohio's Parade of Homes ends Sunday, Aug. 8, with several events designed to showcase New Albany's amenities.

"I guess one saying is: 'It's not where you live, it's how you live,'" said Scott McAfee, village public-information officer. "We wanted to have one day where we integrated a lot of things that define the quality of life here in New Albany."

On Aug. 8, Parade of Homes tickets for people who work or live in New Albany will be discounted from $12 to $10.

In addition to that perk, McAfee said a fun walk and short bicycle trip are scheduled to promote the "healthy" aspect of the village.

Registration for the 2-mile fun walk begins at 4:30 p.m. There is no fee and walkers will take to the leisure trails at 6:30 p.m. The first 100 registered will receive a free microfiber shirt.

The 5-mile family bicycle ride also is free and open to anyone older than 7 who can cycle 5 miles. Registration is at 6:30 p.m. and the ride begins at 7 p.m.

McAfee said the bicycle ride will also use part of the leisure trail system, but a bicycle police escort on the route and officers in vehicles at two road crossing will provide better safety for the riders.

McAfee, who noted that the village has 27 miles of leisure trails, said the village has several people participating in the Pelotonia, an upcoming bicycle event to raise money for cancer, which the bicycle ride will help promote.

In addition, the New Albany Chamber of Commerce is holding its Taste of New Albany event from 5 to 8 p.m. on Aug. 8 at Market Square in downtown New Albany, a few blocks from the Parade of Homes site.

Chamber president Eileen Leuby said this is the largest Taste of New Albany, with more food vendors and other vendors than in previous years. Tickets are $35 each or $300 for a table of 10. A performance by the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, sponsored by the New Albany Signature Series, begins at 6 p.m.

More entertainment will be provided by the Broadway Bound Dancers at 6 p.m., the New Albany Children's Choir at 7 p.m. and the New Albany Symphony Trio at 7:30 p.m.

Leuby said since the Parade of Homes closes at 6 p.m., she hopes visitors will stay and enjoy the entertainment.
