New Albany sixth-grader Sam Kreminski won the district spelling bee Feb. 7 and will compete in the regional spelling bee at The Ohio State University on March 12.

New Albany sixth-grader Sam Kreminski won the district spelling bee Feb. 7 and will compete in the regional spelling bee at The Ohio State University on March 12.

Kreminski has been a finalist in the district spelling bee the past three years but this is the first time he has won the district championship.

His older brother, Max, now a 15-year-old high school student, was a finalist in the district spelling bee for five years.

Columbus Torah Academy and Columbus Jewish Day School have received a grant of $2,535 for their joint Shevat Achim program.

The funds were provided by the Jewish education and identity department at the Columbus Jewish Federation.

Shevat Achim provides collaborative learning and social activities for fifth- and sixth-grade students at both schools. The program encourages enthusiasm and interest in Jewish education.
