In the wake of Dave Maul's resignation, the remaining community members on the New Albany-Plain Local financial review and reporting committee (FRRC) on June 22 discussed their roles and how to create better communication with the school board.

Committee members reviewed the Plain Local Education Association's proposed and asked that the school board notify them of pending contract negotiations with employees. Committee members also talked about getting more involved in detailed financial discussions and decisions, a subject Maul noted in his resignation letter June 20.

Board members Laura Kohler and Cheri Lehmann agreed to make the committee better aware of when negotiations were set to begin, but they said the board could not discuss details of contracts during negotiations.

Also, they assigned the remaining FRRC members new projects that use their financial expertise. Phil Derrow, for example, will study the district's insurance policies, while Parag Patel will look into operating efficiencies.

The FRRC will meet again at 9 a.m. Monday, July 18.
