New Albany residents Elizabeth Thompson and Alison Underhill recently received the Girl Scout Gold Award.

The Gold Award is the highest honor a Senior Girl Scout can earn and symbolizes exceptional achievement in leadership development, career exploration and community service.

Thompson's service project, "Introductory Spanish Enrichments," benefited New Albany Middle School students. She tutored students taking Spanish for the first time.

Thompson is the daughter of Robin Gorham and Lee Thompson and is a graduate of New Albany High School.

For Underhill's service project, "New Albany: A Kid-Sized History," she taught students about the community's history and explained the process of writing and publishing a book.

Underhill is the daughter of Mike and Amy Underhill and is a graduate of New Albany High School.

The Ohio Watercolor Society traveling exhibit will be on view July 10 to Aug. 6 at the Arts Castle, 190 W. Winter St., in Delaware.

Artist James DeVore of New Albany is included in the exhibit.

The second annual Putting for Paws golf outing to benefit the Cozy Cat Cottage Adoption Center will be held Saturday, July 16, at Blackhawk Golf Club in Galena.

Michele Childs of Hilliard and Elita Presuti of New Albany are the event co-chairs.

A shotgun start is scheduled for 2 p.m. The event will follow a scramble format. The afternoon will include a homemade lunch, skill prizes and raffle and door prizes. The top raffle prize is a Trek brand bicycle worth $800.

Registration is open through July 11. Cost is $300 for foursomes and $75 for individual golfers. Sponsorships opportunities are also available.

The Charity Newsies recently elected new trustees for their 2011 campaign.

Ken Martin of New Albany will serve on the Charity Newsies board. This year marks the organization's 105th drive season.
