The New Albany-Plain Local school board on March 19 approved salaries for its administrators despite a union representative's request that action on the salaries be tabled.

Mike Fox, who represents the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE), asked that the salary extensions be tabled because of any increases in the contracts.

Superintendent April Domine pointed out that the administrators have agreed to freeze their salaries for the next two to three years, depending on terms of the contracts.

"They are actually a freezing of their current rates and are no increases at all," she said.

The contracts approved are: three years at $106,110.41 a year for middle school principal Andy Culp; two years at $81,512.20 for assistant middle school principal Stephen Gehlert; two years at $92,512.20 for athletics director Kevin Reed; two years at $94,512.20 for assistant high school principal Rex Reeder; two years at $100,997.21 for elementary principal and grades 2-5 gifted coordinator Robin Ryan; three years at $105,035.96 for director of operations Ken Stark; two years at $117,512.20 for high school principal Ric Stranges; two years at $87,512.20 for environmental education coordinator Sandra Willmore; and two years at $60,253.37 for food-services coordinator Pamela Charles.

Board member Mark Ryan asked why those specific contracts must be approved.

Domine said the contracts are required by law to be passed in March.

Those contracts typically are for employees who work 260 days a year for the district, she said.
