A 17-year-old girl was found dead at 8 a.m. Friday, Aug. 3, at an Ackerly Farm Road residence.

The girl was found in her home by family members, who reported the unresponsive teen to the New Albany Police Department.

Police Chief Mark Chaney said she may have died several hours before having been found.

“We do not suspect foul play,” Chaney said.

The New Albany-Plain Local School District was notified because the girl was a student.

District spokesman Patrick Gallaway said the district did not send out information about the death on Friday, per the family’s wishes.

Chaney said out-of-town family members still were being notified as of Friday afternoon.

Gallaway said the district has an emergency response team in place to provide counseling services to students, staff and the community.
