Nineteen-year-old Elisabeth Jang, a 2011 New Albany High School graduate, spent the past six weeks working as an intern for U.S. Rep. Pat Tiberi (R-Genoa Township).

"It definitely enhanced what I want to do," she said.

Jang is a sophomore at Miami University studying political science and business and economics.

"This has motivated me to go toward the political side, I guess," she said.

Jang worked in Tiberi's Columbus office. She said because the office workers deal with so many different people and so many different issues, she recommends an internship to all students.

"You learn a lot about working with different types of people, which is very important for every type of job," she said.

During her time at the office, Jang said, she worked on "clips," reading as many newspapers as possible, copying articles that featured Tiberi and clipping articles that could interest the congressman. She compiled both types of articles and made copies of the articles that would interest Tiberi.

She also worked with his staff members to write proclamations and congratulatory letters for people and organizations in the 12th Congressional District.

Jang said she learned about the internship on Google and sent in an application with a recommendation from a friend of Tiberi's.

"Her ability to work well with others and her upbeat attitude fit well with the office," Tiberi said in a press release.

Jang is the daughter of Darim and Cynthia Jang of New Albany.
