City Council, mayor give themselves 9-percent pay raises
New Albany City Council and Mayor Nancy Ferguson on Aug. 7 voted 4-0 to increase salaries for their positions.
Colleen Briscoe, Chip Fellows and Chris Wolfe were absent.
Council approved a 9-percent raise, which is equal to what the city staff members have earned in increases over the past four years.
With the increase, council members will earn $9,990 and the mayor will earn $21,800. The raises are retroactive to Jan. 1.
Their previous salaries were $9,165 and $20,000, respectively.
The legislation included a provision for the mayor to earn an additional $5,000 annually for presiding over mayor’s court.
