New Albany resident Abigail S. Wexner is stepping down as chairwoman of the Nationwide Children's Hospital board after seven years, effective Aug. 24.

Wexner, who will remain on the board, will be succeeded as chair by Alex Fischer, president and CEO of the Columbus Partnership.

In a prepared statement last week, hospital CEO Dr. Steve Allen lauded Wexner's "passion and visionary leadership" during an era that the hospital described as "a period of unprecedented growth and success." The hospital recently completed a $783 million master facilities expansion, which it describes as the nation's largest pediatric hospital expansion ever.

Wexner, a noted philanthropist and founder of the New Albany Classic Invitational Grand Prix and Family Day, joined the board in 1993. She completed her second 3-year term as chair in July 2011, according to a hospital news release, but agreed to remain as chairwoman through the opening of the new hospital in June 2012.
