Social Security number stolen, used in fraud

A resident reported to New Albany police at 8:57 p.m. Dec. 26 that a Social Security number was stolen from a resident of the 4900 block of Hearthstone Park Drive.

Police said the stolen number subsequently was used to fraudulently obtain credit cards.

The fraudulent credit cards then were and to purchase $8,000 worth of items from various sources, all charged to the New Albany resident, police reports said.

* A 25-year-old man was arrested at 1:26 a.m. Jan. 6 at Reynoldsburg-New Albany and Village Hall roads for operating a motor vehicle under the influence and failure to register a vehicle, New Albany police reported.
