Students to dance to raise cancer research funds

By

New Albany High School students will test their dance skills during the three-hour Eaglethon from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, May 17, in the New Albany Middle School gymnasium.

"Our slogan is 'Dance For Those Who Can't' and we are really going to encourage all of our dancers to try standing for all three hours," said senior Morgan Breen.

Breen said proceeds from the event will be donated to Nationwide Children's Hospital's pediatric oncology department.

"I volunteered to direct and organize the event because my aunt passed away from breast cancer in her early 20s and the issue is really important to me," Breen said.

Breen's aunt, Marty Schaeper, was a graduate of Miami University who lived in Washington Court House.

Breen said she hopes to have 100 dancers participating.

Admission is $10. Those who cannot attend but want to donate can visit helpmakemiracles.org and use the keyword "Eaglethon."

"The event has been so much fun to plan and I have worked with a lot of really great people," Breen said. "The biggest challenge has been getting the word out about Eaglethon; there have been so many amazing projects and fundraisers going on at the high school this year that it has been hard to raise awareness, but we're gaining more support every day."
