Wyant named Teacher of the Year

Tina Wyant, a sixth-grade social studies teacher at New Albany Middle School, has been named a 2013 Teacher of the Year by izzit.org.

She will be presented with the David and Annette Jorgenson Award for Excellence at a ceremony in Chicago.

izzit.org is a not-for-profit organization that provides teachers with free educational video and daily current event discussion topics. To be an izzit.org Teacher of the Year, a teacher must explain how they effectively and creatively use these tools to teach students about the characteristics and benefits of a free society.

Wyant, who has taught at NAMS for 11 years, used "Win Win: A Trading Game," for her winning entry. The hands-on trading activity encouraged her students to compare the benefits and challenges of free trade versus restricted trade.
