New Albany: Officer confiscates $300 worth of fireworks in local park

The New Albany Police Department confiscated $300 worth of mortar-style fireworks from four men at 8:31 p.m. June 16 at Bevelhymer Park.

The men were found by an officer on routine patrol at the park.

The officer reported seeing one man trying to light something but said the man stopped after he and his companions noticed the officer.

The four were warned that it is illegal to light fireworks in the state and the officer took all the fireworks.

In other recent incident reports from the New Albany Police Department:

* Police are investigating four fraudulent checks totaling $7161.40 that mimicked a local business' checks.

The fraudulent checks included the business' name and information, check number and account number and a copy of a legitimate signature.

The checks were cashed on June 13 by three different people.

The business on South High Street reported the crime at 3:06 p.m. June 14.
