Helmeted, ax-wielding suspect sought by New Albany police

New Albany police are looking for a person who used an ax to break glass doors at Abercrombie & Fitch Distribution Center No. 1, 6200 Fitch Path Road, at 4:05 p.m. Dec. 31.

Police reports said the ax-wielding suspect was wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt and motorcycle helmet. He or she was seen by a witness exiting a beige Chevy Suburban and smashing the glass in the doors with an ax. The rear license plate of the vehicle was covered with tape, police reports said.

Police received a call about the incident at 4:17 p.m. and arrived on the scene at 4:18 p.m. but the person who broke the doors had left, the report said.

In other recent incident reports from the New Albany Police Department:

* Police are investigating a break-in reported at 4:02 p.m. Dec. 26 in the 5000 block of Thompson Road.

A suspect removed a screen door and broke a door lock, also removing a piece of paneling that covered the doorway inside the home, according to the police report.

A resident was inside at the time of the attempted burglary and did not see anyone enter, the report said.

The report concluded the suspect did not enter the home and no items were reported missing.
