Links golf course under new ownership

New Albany Links residents hope to learn more about changes to the New Albany Links Golf Course when they meet with the course's new owners Feb. 10.

Chip Fellows, chairman of the residents' advisory committee, said a couple of weeks ago he met with Ray Finnerty, general manager of the new owner, New Era Golf Ohio, and Joe Ciminello, who developed the New Albany Links and is the former owner, to talk about proposed changes.

Fellows said the course might be changed to make it easier to play and New Era is looking to increase the number of golf memberships at the Links.

New Albany Links is a semi-private golf course on New Albany Links Drive and it is surrounded by 600 homes. Fellows said it always has been open to the public.

New Era Golf Ohio already is managing the facility, Fellows said.

The course has been added to New Era Golf's website, which includes three other courses it owns and operates in central Ohio: Glenross Golf Club in Delaware, Royal American Golf Club in Galena and Bent Tree Golf Club in Sunbury.

Ciminello confirmed the sale earlier this week.

"We determined it was the appropriate time to divest of our financial interest in the New Albany Links golf course," Ciminello said. "The course is now performing the best it ever has, thanks in large part to the support of the New Albany Links community.

"The plan is also to turn over the homeowners association to the home owners this year," he said. "We believe we have set good framework for the New Albany Links community and golf course to complement and enhance each other. Even though we divested of our financial interest, we will always have interest in how New Albany Links is doing as a whole."

ThisWeek could not reach Finnerty for comment.
