The second annual Eden Adams Memorial Blood Drive is scheduled from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 5, at the New Albany 2-5 elementary gymnasium.

Eden Adams was a student at the elementary school who suffered from neuroblastoma, a cancer that attacks the nervous system. She died in 2008 and the school installed a butterfly garden in her honor.

The blood drive was started in 2013 by Rourke Adams, Eden's father, and Jessica Lewis, whose daughter, Hannah Lewis, also has cancer.

Hannah was diagnosed at age 6 with rhabdomyosarcoma, a cancer that is found in muscle, with cancerous tumors that connect to bones.

Hannah and Eden were friends and both received numerous blood transfusions during their treatment, the families have said.

There were 91 units of blood donated during last year's blood drive, said district spokesman Patrick Gallaway.
