The New Albany-Plain Local School District is expected to post the position of special-education director within the next few weeks.
The current special-education director, Samantha McMasters, is leaving for a position with the Bexley district and is expected to start her new job Aug. 1.
District spokesman Patrick Gallaway said New Albany-Plain Local is fortunate McMasters will be able to help with the transition of bringing in a new director.
The special-education director is in charge of two assistant directors, two instructional aides and the special education teachers at all buildings.
In a letter to district parents, Superintendent April Domine wrote, "In Sam's four years with the district, she has made a tremendous impact on the special education program at New Albany. Her efforts to provide ongoing professional development, streamline processes, serve student need and support each family has been amazing and has lifted us to a new level."
Domine also credited McMasters with helping to obtain a recent program grant from the Franklin County Alcohol, Drug and Mental Health Board.
