The New Albany Community Band will hold its first neighborhood concert at 6 p.m. Saturday, June 14, in the Windsor commons area off Chatham Green.
"It's our first time to do this," said band director Darren Falk. "We're just kind of hoping to go into a neighborhood and get folks to come outdoors. It's a way to let people know we exist."
The New Albany Community Band is 45 members strong, with a mix of professionals, amateurs and student musicians from the northeast portion of central Ohio.
Falk said many of the band's professional members are like him, participating in the band as a way to continue performing. Falk teaches music in the New Albany-Plain Local School District.
The concert, on Flag Day, will include some patriotic music, including America the Beautiful, the National Emblem March, Stars and Stripes Forever and the Armed Forces Salute.
Falk said the band also will play some cinematic favorites, including selections from Les Miserables, Robin Hood, Pirates of the Caribbean and a fantasy game.
He said the concert will run 45 minutes to an hour.
"We want to thank (the Windsor Homeowners Association) for welcoming us and we hope it is a big success," Falk said.
The concert is sponsored by the New Albany Arts Council.
Falk said if the concert has a decent turnout, the community band could schedule other performances in local neighborhoods.
