The 2014 Taste of New Albany is expected to feature 29 restaurants and 16 vendors tempting residents' taste buds Aug. 3 in Market Square.
"We have Mexican, Asian, American -- just a wide variety (of food)," said Courtney Orr, director of the New Albany Chamber of Commerce, which organizes the Taste of New Albany.
Orr said the event will feature familiar appetizers like wings, comfort foods like pot roast over mashed potatoes, unconventional foods like "cooked sushi" and gluten-free smoothies and lots of desserts.
She said most of the restaurants bring something special, vying for the title of Best of the Taste.
Last year, one of New Albany's newer restaurants, Plate, was chosen as Best of the Taste.
Orr said five judges typically taste all the entries and determine which restaurant provided the best entries.
Several other awards are given during the event for the best food display, best vendor display and people's choice award.
Orr said all awards except the people's choice are announced at the event. The latter will be announced in the next chamber newsletter.
The event is scheduled from 5 to 7:30 p.m. under white tents in Market Square.
Orr said Taste of New Albany will be held rain or shine.
Guests who purchase a ticket can sample as many different types of food as they want, with complimentary nonalcoholic beverages. Beer and wine will be available through a cash bar.
Entertainment will be provided by the New Albany High School jazz band and Dwight Lenox and the Lenox Avenue Express.
Orr said 720 seats at 72 tables would be available.
Tickets will cost $45 for individuals or $400 for a table of 10. They are available online at newalbanychamber.com.
A complete list of participating restaurants and vendors is available on the chamber's website.
