The New Albany Arts Council has planned several performance programs this fall for children ages 6 to 15 and adults.
A seven-week workshop series for the arts council's Broadway Beginners, open to 6- to 8-year-olds, starts Sept. 6 and ends Oct. 18.
Mala Chandrasekaran, a spokeswoman for the arts council, said the children would learn the fundamentals of a musical production, music and choreography.
They will learn songs from The Jungle Book Kids and will perform some of what they learned for parents at the end of the workshops.
Workshops are held from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at the New Albany Church of the Resurrection's Ministry Center, 6300 Dublin-Granville Road in New Albany. Registration at newalbanyarts.org closes Aug. 30.
Another performance group, the Center Stage Singers, is open to ages 9 to 15. The fall group is full, but another session will begin in January, Chandrasekaran said.
Two other arts council groups, the New Albany Chorus and the New Albany Winds, formerly the New Albany Community Band, also are seeking new members.
Both perform several times a year at various functions.
The chorus will begin weekly rehearsals from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 8, at the New Albany High School choral room, 7600 Fodor Road.
Interested vocalists should email Kathy Mayhorn at email@example.com for more information.
The New Albany Winds group is seeking clarinet or percussion players, but all musicians are invited to audition.
The group begins weekly rehearsals from 7 to 8:15 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29, at the New Albany High School band room.
Interested musicians should email Darren Falk at firstname.lastname@example.org or call 614-432-8085.
All of the arts council's programs and events are listed on the website, newalbanyarts.org.
