The Columbus Academy girls lacrosse team has advanced to the Division II state tournament for the second consecutive season after edging Columbus School for Girls 14-13 on May 26 at Westerville Central.

The Columbus Academy girls lacrosse team has advanced to the Division II state tournament for the second consecutive season after edging Columbus School for Girls 14-13 on May 26 at Westerville Central.

The Vikings improve to 14-1-1 and the Unicorns finish at 14-4. Academy plays in a state semifinal May 3 at Gates Mills Hawken against Rocky River or Hawken.

In a game postponed because of bad weather for one hour, Academy took an early 7-3 lead before CSG rallied to within 9-7 by halftime.

CSG took an 11-10 lead with 3 minutes, 50 seconds remaining on a goal by Patricia Ryan, but Academy scored three consecutive goals, including one by Courtney Deena with 7:47 to go to take a 13-11 lead. The Unicorns tied it at 13 on a goal by Julia Kelley with 2:54 left but Deena scored what would become the game-winner with 1:01 remaining.

Academy beat CSG 13-11 on May 10 in a regular-season game.
