Jimmy Gammill, who helped the New Albany High School football team reach the postseason the last two seasons, committed Feb. 1 to kick at the University of Pennsylvania.

In three seasons as a starter for the Eagles, Gammill was 120-for-127 on extra-point attempts and 26-for-32 on field-goal attempts with 50 touchbacks.

Last season, Gammill made nine of 11 field-goal attempts, including 45-yarders to beat DeSales 27-24 on Sept. 9 and Big Walnut 34-31 on Oct. 14. The Eagles finished 9-3 overall and 6-1 in the OCC-Capital Division, tying Big Walnut and Olentangy Orange for the league title before losing to Dresden Tri-Valley 24-7 in a Division II, Region 7 semifinal.

As a junior, Gammill made the winning field goal in a 13-10 victory over DeSales, which helped send New Albany to an undefeated regular season at 10-0. The Eagles lost their first-round playoff game to Tri-Valley 30-27 in double overtime.

Penn, a member of the Ivy League, plays in the Football Championship Subdivision, formerly Division I-AA.

Offensive lineman Alex Manias signed to play football at Division II Alderson-Broaddus College in Philippi, W. Va.

A three-year letterwinner, Manias (6-foot-1, 225 pounds) blocked for a run-oriented New Albany offense that averaged 228.5 rushing yards per game last season. He was named second team all-OCC-Capital and all-district last season.

Next season is the inaugural season for the Alderson-Broaddus football team.
