Windle named top track athlete
New Albany High School graduate Drew Windle has been named the 2013 U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches men’s indoor Athlete of the Year.
At the recent NCAA Division II national championships in Birmingham, Ala., the Ashland University sophomore won the 800 meters (1 minute, 48.75 seconds) and ran on the first-place 1,600 relay (3:09.38). His time in the 800 was the second fastest in the history of the Division II meet.
Windle also won the 800 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championships in 1:48.82, making him the second Division II athlete to record multiple sub-1:49 times, according to Ashland.
