Oakstone Academy is looking to add day-care services to its Northland location.

The school, 2655 Oakstone Drive, has applied to the city for a variance that would allow them to operate a day care. The school already offers preschool and elementary school services on that site, as well as middle and high school classes at its Westerville location.

Jeff Brown, the attorney for the school, sought a recommendation of support from the Northland Community Council during its monthly meeting Wednesday night.

Brown said the city approved zoning for a preschool on the site a few years ago and now would need to add day care to the permitted uses for the site.
The school sits on its own driveway off Cleveland Avenue, just north of state Route 161.

Oakstone Academy integrates students on the autism spectrum and typically developing students in a traditional classroom setting.

The Northland Community Council will release its recommendation Friday. After gaining support of the council, zoning applicants are heard before the Columbus Board of Zoning Adjustments then move onto Columbus City Council for final approval.
