Beechcroft Lions Club to kick off 'Cents for Sight'

The members of the Beechcroft Lions Club are launching an annual "Cents for Sight" program.

Officials with the service club are asking people to spare their spare change and give up some old glasses to help with their major ongoing projects.

"Why not put your spare change and old glasses to work for a good cause?" asked club spokesman Roger D. Heckel.

On Saturday, Nov. 14, club members will be collecting both old prescription glasses and loose change that may have collected in drawers, jars or cups at two locations from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Collecting used eyeglasses is a service project that's always been conducted by Lions Clubs. The request for loose change is to help out with not only programs for the sight-impaired but also to help pay for the annual "Holiday Gift Basket" program for Northland-area families in need.

The collection sites Nov. 14 will be the Church of the Good Shepherd, 6176 Sharon Woods Blvd., and St. Elizabeth Catholic Church, 6077 Sharon Woods Blvd.

According to Heckel, 100 percent of the proceeds from the collections at both locations will go toward the holiday gift baskets, Camp Echoing Hills, Pilot Dogs Inc., the Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation, Central Ohio Lions Eye Bank, the 13F Eye Care Fund, Newsreel for the Blind and Ohio Radio Reading Services.

Those who can't make it to either of the drop-off locations may contact the Lions Club to make plans for a convenient pickup by sending an e-mail to beechcroft lions@gmail.com or calling 882-6245.
