A Delaware woman was sentenced in Delaware County Common Pleas Court Monday, Feb. 24, to four and a half years in prison in the death of a popular St. Francis DeSales High School teacher and coach killed while riding his bicycle last September along a rural road.
Mary Kathryn Paul will also lose her driver's license for life. She will begin serving her sentence immediately.
Paul pleaded guilty in December to one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of fleeing the scene. She struck Lennon, 64, as he was riding along Miller-Paul Road in Delaware County. She told John W. Kessler, the visiting judge assigned to the case, she thought she had hit a mailbox. She said she wasn't wearing her glasses at the time and suffered from diabetes and depression.
A special prosecutor handling the case has said coroner's reports indicate Lennon died instantly.
