Disney revue at CAHS will feature familiar songs, characters

A sizeable cast of Columbus Alternative High School students will perform in A Disney Musical Revue April 3-5.

"Who doesn't like Disney?" asked Cathy Cordy, the school's veteran theater teacher.

The show will go on at 7 p.m. Thursday through Saturday at the school, 2632 McGuffey Road. General admission is $6 per person at the door.

The program of music and scenes from Walt Disney Studio animated features will offer young and old alike "a walk down memory lane," according to Katie Swett of Clintonville, a parent-volunteer at CAHS.

The cast of about 45 students draws mostly from the school's choir, but some are in the theater program, Cordy said.

She credited vocal music director Daryl J. Flemming with developing the idea for the revue.

"He just thought Disney would be a fun attraction to produce," Cordy said. "He gathered a lot of Disney songs and put them together into a show. It's a musical revue, not a play."

Students dressed in character will sing excerpts from songs in such Disney hits as Beauty and the Beast, Mulan, The Princess and the Frog, The Little Mermaid and others.

The character of Jiminy Cricket will serve as master of ceremonies, Cordy said.

"I think it would be entertaining for kids," she added. "It's an ensemble cast ... which was another attraction because we could get more students."
